How Stress Affects Your Blood Sugar

The cold hard truth

By living with diabetes and by taking your prescribed medication, you are under the constant daily threat of dying of a heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, succumbing to blindness, amputations, neuropathy, hypertension, nerve system disease, high cholesterol, depression, and falling into a coma. Those are just the side-effects of living with diabetes.

Now lets add the side-effects from the drugs that are supposed to "help" you; hepatitis, liver problems, acidosis leading to death within hours, heart attacks, stroke, increased risk of cancer, weakened immune system, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, heart failure, etc.

Everyone knows that diabetes, both Type 1 and Type 2, involves properly controlling the body's blood sugar level. This can be affected by the type, frequency, and amount of foods that are consumed. But there is another factor that is also a major contributor to blood sugar levels and complication: stress. In fact, it has more to do with managing diabetes than you can imagine.

When your body is under stress it will automatically respond in the only way that it knows how... which is to release hormones. Hormones run everything from a woman's menstrual cycle, to a person's moods... to body functions. But when hormones are released, so is sugar. That's why under extreme periods of stress our bodies are able to perform some extraordinary acts as it is burning up the excess reserves of sugar that are stored in it.

But instead of rapid bouts of stress that are soon over, what about stress that continually builds over time? If short bursts of stress release extra sugar into the blood spontaneously, what does a continuous level of stress release? That's right: it releases sugar too, but over a longer period of time. And to a diabetic, this is not good news.

Releasing additional levels of sugar due to stress, in addition to what is extracted from your food intake, only ups the limits of sugar that is present in your bloodstream. This is the one thing that diabetics don't need. Now, stress is not only causing the diabetic to worry more, but it is now affecting their overall health.

One common side effect form stress is to either skip meals or skimp on meals. Skipping them altogether is disastrous for anyone, but the effects are amplified in diabetics. This is one thing that they cannot afford to do. This results in blood sugar levels plummeting and brings on an onslaught of complications too numerous to mention.

Almost as dangerous is skimping on meals. Taking the easy way out by consuming unhealthy snacks or fast food is equally as effective in sabotaging your blood sugar level. That's why eating healthy is so critical for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics. Healthy food helps to equal healthy sugar.

Stress can also affect the body by cutting out exercise. People think they simply do not have time. But a healthy cardiovascular system is essential to maintaining optimal blood sugar levels.

Sleep, or lack of sleep, is another way that stress can creep into our lives. Not getting enough rest taxes the body, which causes stress, which causes insomnia, and so forth. It is a wheel in a gerbil cage that you won't be able to get off of until your body gives out. For an average person, this would mean exhaustion. For a diabetic, the consequences can be much more severe.

3 Foods That Will Make Your Type 2 Diabetes Even Worse

Did you know that some “safe” foods might be making your diabetes even worse?
You know to stay away from sweets, but some so-called “healthy” alternatives could be hijacking your blood sugar.
>>>What if you could REVERSE your Type 2 Diabetes and throw away your insulin shots? A new medical discovery makes it possible.
Keep these blood sugar-boosters off the menu to maximize your energy level:
Fruit Smoothies
You’ve been told your whole lives to eat your fruits and veggies, but here’s what they didn’t tell you…
Many smoothies contain as much sugar as three cans of soda…
…especially fast-food and restaurant smoothies.
So how can you get the necessary vitamins and fiber while avoiding blood sugar spikes?
The solution: make smoothies yourself.
Just make sure to stay away from super-sugary fruits like bananas and peaches.
Try these instead:
Apples
Blueberries
Strawberries

Potatoes
I know what you’re thinking:
“What could go wrong with a food that’s fat-free, cholesterol-free, and full of fiber and vitamins?”
The problem with starchy foods, like potatoes, is that they’re digested into the bloodstream lightning-quick and can trigger sharp insulin spikes.
Don’t scrap your spuds just yet, though. The key to a diabetes-friendly potato is in the preparation and portion size.
Preparation tips:
Cook them with a healthy fat, like olive oil
Add leafy greens or vegetables
Chill the potato or add lemon juice to slow digestion
As for portion size, stick to about 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes or a computer mouse sized baked potato.

White rice
In the diabetes world, white flour is like sugar’s evil minion.
Combine this with all the frying and processing involved with cooking flour, and your bloodstream is about to become a war-zone.
In fact, regularly eating white rice significantly increases your risk for Type 2 Diabetes. The risk increases 11% for each additional daily serving.
Thankfully, there is another option: brown rice.
Whole grains have fiber, which slows the rush of glucose into the bloodstream. Two servings of brown rice per week can actually lower your risk of diabetes, and help keep your blood sugar in check.
What if you could REVERSE your Type 2 Diabetes and never stop enjoying your favorite foods, here’s what you need:

Health Benefits of Chocolate

Why Chocolate Really is Good For You!

Yes, its every chocoholics wildest dream - to wake up one morning and discover that their addiction is actually good for them! Finally, health experts are starting to agree with what chocolate addicts have suggested for some time, that eating the right type of chocolate in moderation really can be good for your health.

Historically, back in the times of the Aztecs, it's been viewed as an aphrodisiac and it was valued to highly that cocoa beans were even used as currency. Unfortunately, until the late eighteenth century, chocolate was only available as a fairly bitter drink, not something today's addicts would probably approve of. Thanks to the Swiss company, Lindt, who first used conching to create a really smooth melting chocolate, we can now enjoy the kind of smooth tasting flavour we know today.

As it contains small amounts of flavonoids, antioxidants, theobromine and phylethylamine (PEA), all of which can have a beneficial effect.

Flavonoids which naturally occur in the cocoa plant are though to help lower blood pressure. Theobromine is a stimulant, with similar, but less powerful effect to caffeine. Phylethylamine (PEA) is a mood elevator, hence chocolates association with love and romance, as it can give a lift similar to that of being in love. Antioxidants can help minimize the damage done to our body by free radicals.

Studies by the University of L'Aquila showed that eating dark chocolate (70% or more) could help control type 2 diabetes and reduce blood pressure. Other research has shown that regular eating of it can benefit the cardiovascular system. One Harvard study showed that eaters live longer, up to one year longer than non-choc eaters. The best results were shown for those who ate 1-3 bars of chocolate per month.

Before you start changing to a 100% choc diet, it's important to remember that it also contains fats and sugars, so should only be eaten in moderation.

Beware eating too much milk or white chocolate as these are full of added sugar and milk, with greater risk to health and far reduced health benefits. The chocolate which has been shown to have most benefits is dark (or plain, black) chocolate, with over 70% cocoa content. Top selling brands include Lindt, Divine and Green & Blacks.

Good news for those on a dairy free diet, is that they can indulge in dark chocolate, as it contains no milk. Make sure you choose bars with 70% minimum! Unlike some milk chocolates, dark chocolates have a stronger taste, wonderful slowly melting on the tongue.

So, how to include the right amount in your diet without overdoing it? Have a square of dark chocolate for dessert instead of your usual pudding or sweet. Enjoy hand made truffles for special occasions or give as gifts to health conscious friends.

You may have to adapt your eating habits - but the good news is that eating the right type of chocolate is now good for you and you can indulge in your favorite food guilt free!

Urinary Tract Infection Treatment

Urinary tract infection (UTI), as the name suggests is an infection affecting one or more body parts associated with the pumping of urine out of the body. Any of these parts can host the infection when diagnosed with a UTI - one or both Kidneys, bladder, ureters or urethra. On the basis of the urine and other test/s recommended by your doctor, the affected area and the severity of the infection can be determined. Along with the test reports, a physician may also consider the following as part of a urinary tract infection treatment:

Patient's age
Patient's sex
If the patient has any other illnesses
If the patient has a medical history of repeated UTIs
If the patient has conditions like diabetes, cancer, urine retention, kidney or bladder stone, bowel incontinence, enlarged prostate, etc.
If the patient is pregnant
If the patient is going through Menopause.
Urinary tract infections are more common in women and can be treated successfully with required antibiotics. In men however UTI is rare and hence is generally suspected to be a symptom of some other medical condition; these other tests will be prescribed to rule out any other medical problems before beginning with a urinary tract infection treatment.

In most cases, UTIs can be treated with antibiotics to be taken. The dose of the medicine and the duration of the treatment would depend on the severity of the infection and the factors mentioned above.

Let's take a quick look at urinary tract infection treatment in some detail...

I. UTI treatment in women

For an otherwise healthy adult female with no other underlying medical condition/ illness, an oral antibiotic dose of 1 to 3 days is recommended for a not-so-severe UTI.
For a woman who is pregnant or with diabetes or a mild kidney infection, an antibiotic treatment of 7 to 14 days is recommended.
If the kidney infection is of a higher degree, treatment needs to be continued for several weeks.

In women who get UTI repeatedly, long term treatment or preventive antibiotics might be required. A daily dose of antibiotics or a short term course or an antibiotic dose every time after sexual intercourse can be prescribed depending on the cause of infection.

In women with menopause, along with the antibiotic UTI treatment, use of topical estrogen is also prescribed to reduce the risk of recurrence.

II. UTI treatment in men

The treatment will have to be continued for 7 to 14 days in case of an otherwise healthy male with no other illnesses.

If a male patient with UTI is also suffering from prostration or a kidney infection antibiotic treatment needs to be continued for several weeks.

III. UTI with pain and burning sensation

If a patient diagnosed with UTI experiences pain in the abdomen or pain, uneasiness and burning sensation while urinating pain killers or bladder anesthetics might be prescribed. These medicines might make the urine reddish orange.

These medicines often help the patients who get a severe urge to urinate but do not pass anything when they actually try. The medication reduces the urge.

IV. Severe UTI

If the infection is severe and not advisable to be treated with oral antibiotics, the patient is treated with intravenous antibiotics in the hospital.

In patients who have UTIs due to the back flow of urine from the bladder to the kidneys or due to a structural problem like an enlarged prostate, surgery might be required.

V. UTI treatment in kids

If the infection is not severe, oral antibiotics are prescribed and the duration of medication depends on the symptoms and diagnosis.

In severe cases or if the infected child is less than 6 months of age, hospitalization along with inject-able or intravenous antibiotics are required.

In most cases, the symptoms of UTIs subside within 24 to 48 hours of taking medication and the patient feels better. But the course of antibiotics as prescribed by the doctor should be completed or the infection might recur and get more severe.

Along with the antibiotic urinary tract infection treatment, all patients diagnosed with UTI must increase their water intake to flush out the infection causing bacteria. Intake of alcoholic, caffeinated, sugary and acidic (some fruit juices) drinks should be discontinued as these irritate the bladder and interfere with the antibiotic treatment. Spicy and oily foods should also be avoided for more effective treatment.

A urinary tract infection can affect one or more parts of the urinary system. This infection is highly treatable with timely diagnosis and proper care. However it is extremely important to diagnose and treat UTIs in the initial stages to avoid complications. Do not neglect even the slightest symptoms. Go here now, and learn about UTI

How to Control High Blood Sugar

Overview

How to control blood sugar is quite easy if you pay specific attention to your diet and to the information you would have received from the Dietitian at one of your regular Clinic appointments.

However, food is pleasurable and we all eat partly on impulse: we do not sit around thinking of chemicals and nutrients, but of that delicious evening meal you are looking forward to, or that bar of chocolate you are craving for and know you absolutely must not have it. So, is it possible to control blood sugar in a more straightforward way so that you do not spend all day thinking about food and what you can no longer eat.

Reduce the Temptations Associated with Carbohydrates

Firstly, regardless of the trend, stay well away from the carbohydrate diet revolution. This kind of diet is no good for you if you are trying to control your blood sugar. For you, with high levels of glucose in your blood, you need to ration your carbohydrate intake because, when your body detects too much carbohydrates and sugar it will release a dose of insulin to counteract the carbs.

Usually, your sugar is stored in your liver and muscle cells as glycogen which is an instant source of energy. Stored glycogen is the reason why you need to exercise for at least 20 minutes before you start burning fat, by the way.

Essential Vitamins and Minerals

Chromium-3 and Zinc are two of the micronutrients that enables glucose to be metabolized more efficiently. Zince is present in much high protein, low carbohydrate foods such as meat, eggs, and dark green leafy vegetables. Chromium-3 is found in broccoli, apple, tomatoes and sweet potatoes. It is also found in sweetcorn although this isn't such a good choice if your blood glucose level is elevated.

Soluble fiber should always be included in the diet. Apart from making you feel fuller for longer, soluble fiber actually slows down the rate at which carbohydrates get metabolized during the digestion process, giving your insulin longer to be able to act on your intake of carbohydrate.

There are two sources of vitamins. These are either fat-soluble or water-soluble which is why, even when you are following a low-fat diet you must take some fats into your diet. Without fats in your diet your body wouldn't be able to absorb those vitamins that are essential to health: Vitamins A, D, E, and K. The water-soluble vitamins are Vitamins B and C. Vitamin B is an excellent source of nutrition for the individual suffering with high blood sugar.

One of the problems that people often face, especially those with diagnosed diabetes, is nerve damage. The B vitamin group of 6 individual vitamins is able to help prevent this nerve damage from occurring. The B Vitamins tend to be thiamine [B1]; riboflavin [B2]; nicotinic acid [B3]; pyridoxine [B6]; cobalamin [B12]; and folate [folic acid]. Since all sources of Vitamin B12 are from animal origin, the British Vegan Society recommend a range of foods that have been fortified with B12.

Basically, however, if you eat a wide range of foods, including something from each food group, you will gain sufficient nutrients to keep you healthy and, whilst you can learn how to control blood sugar by taking food supplements and reducing the amount of carbohydrate you eat, you will be far healthier by choosing food from each of the food groups and varying your diet as much as possible.

Not only will this enable you to figure out how to control your blood sugar, but you will probably find new foods that you actually enjoy eating and find that maintaining a healthy diet to control your blood sugar becomes less of a chore in the future.

Diabetic Neuropathy Treatment

Diabetic Neuropathy is damage to nerves caused by the prolonged effect of high sugar levels in the blood. High blood sugar is a consequence of having diabetes. Diabetics strive to manage their blood sugar levels by eating a healthy diet, exercising (and injecting insulin in some cases). It is believed that keeping blood sugar levels low or at least constant is the best way to manage diabetes and prevent further complications occurring. This article will outline the various types of neuropathy, why it is important to treat them and how they are treated.

Diabetic neuropathy can affect any nerve or system of nerves in the body and has be sub-classified by the parts of the body that they affect. The four types are :

Peripheral - that affects the extremities of the body, notably the feet.

Autonomic - that affects the autonomic nervous system that is responsible for the automatic processes that go on in the body. They manifest in the stomach generally.

Proximal - the areas affects are the hips, thighs and buttocks.

Focal - a focused group of nerves in any region of the body. This is characterized by sudden 'flare ups' of irritation or pain in a specific part of the body. They are as likely to 'flare down' or dissipate with treatment as they are to 'flare up'.

The most common form of neuropathy is peripheral neuropathy. It generally affects the feet but can move into the legs. It is also known to affect the hands and arms but is less common. The most obvious signs of peripheral neuropathy are numbness or tingling in the feet. As the nerves become more damaged the loss of feeling in the feet increases. This insensitivity is exacerbated because the feet of diabetics are prone to cuts and bruises. Without the sensation of pain that might accompany a cut the cut can be left untreated and fester. This can lead to gangrene and infection. In some cases people have had to have feet amputated.

This is why treatment and prevention are important for diabetic neuropathy.

Treatment of diabetic neuropathy is problematic because the symptoms can affect any part of the body. Therefore the treatment of neuropathy focuses on dealing with the immediate symptoms and then working on preventing the neuropathy from worsening.

The immediate symptoms may be any form of pain or irritation in the feet, for example. A pain killing medicine might be prescribed, a cream might be administered to the area most affected or a therapeutic course of action like acupuncture, might be followed.

In conjunction with this treatment of the immediate problem, a long term prevention strategy will be advised. Long term prevention means keeping the blood sugar level low or within a target range that is recommended by your doctor. The best way to do this would be to devise and stick to a diabetic diet, exercise regularly and take insulin replacement therapy to control the blood sugar levels before or after eating. This will require a fair amount of discipline from the diabetic but the complications of diabetic neuropathy will be far worse over time if allowed to worsen.

How to Reverse Diabetes Now

Here's important news for anyone with diabetes. A remarkable E-Book is now available that reveals scientifically proven principles that can help trigger your body to produce more insulin naturally, reversing diabetes symptoms without the need for medication.

Diabetes is a condition in which sugar is not properly absorbed by the body. Globally the incidence of diabetes is expected to exceed 250 million people by 2025 – resulting in 35 million heart attacks, 13 million strokes, 6 million episodes of renal failure, 8 million instances of blindness or eye surgery, 2 million amputations and 62 million deaths – that is a measure of the scale of the problem. While diabetes belongs at the top of the healthcare agenda, it has yet to be given that position.
According to the American Diabetes Association, there are 21 million diabetics in America; with another 54 million people having pre-diabetes (placing them at high risk for developing Type II diabetes). This equates to 75 million Americans having diabetes, or being at high risk.

With attention focused on blood sugar and insulin levels, however, the underlying cause of all the devastation has been overlooked. According to health advocate and best-selling author Matt Traverso, many doctors are failing to treat the real underlying cause of diabetes. Instead, they are treating the symptoms with chemicals and pharmaceutical medications that often leave the sufferers with side effects and a long term dependency on these drugs.

What some doctors may be failing to understand is that diabetes is not a disease, it is an outward reaction coming directly from the pancreas that results in the body no longer being able to produce normal amounts of insulin due to the pancreas being run down.

Matt Traverso's E-Book states, if the damage that is being done to the pancreas can be turned around, the organ will be given the chance to heal itself and then, gradually, it is possible for those who are dependent on insulin shots to be able to stop them all together. This means diabetes sufferers may no longer have to be dependant on the drugs and medications that are usually taken to treat the condition.

Top scientists such as Dr Robert O. Young, Dr Gabriel Cousens, Dr Fuhrman and many others (whose groundbreaking research forms the basis of this E-book) state that “diabetes is completely reversible”. This information sheds new light on how diabetes sufferers get the condition and how they can turn their illness around for good. The new finding on diabetes is being called "The Diabetes-Reversing Breakthrough" all through the western world. I would like to extend the opportunity to anyone who either suffers from type 1 or type 2 diabetes, or is at high risk of getting the disease, to learn more about “The Diabetes-Reversing Breakthrough!”

Diabetes Reversing Breakthrough Type 2

Revealed: The Shocking Truth About Diabetes!

It seems that “money” (as usual) has blinded doctors and medical practitioners to the degree that they are now willingly *suppressing* the truth regarding diabetes – its control, management, and even its cure!

That’s right: I said it ...“cure!”

And this should shock you even more:

It seems that it’s against the law to say the word “cure” when describing anything that actually cures you.

Yet it’s very much okay to say that something “treats” or helps “offset” the symptoms of some health condition or disease.

But if you say “cure” (and even including when you in fact have a real and bona fide cure for something and can even prove it!) you can get arrested.

Ever wonder why no one ever talks about “curing diabetes”? Everyone seems to be content with finding ways to “control diabetes” or “live with diabetes”. And for good reason.

It’s simply because no one’s out to “cure” anyone because there’s little money in doing so.

No one’s out to “cure” anyone because there’s little money in doing so.

Instead, keeping you sick and marginally pain-free is all anyone’s really out to do for you these days – as doing so means you being “forced” to buy all the same drugs over and over again, and again, and … (you get the point!)

Of course, if a cure came along it would mean you buy it one time, and then you’re cured – and that’s that (over and done!)

Listen, if somebody showed you how to cure diabetes… they wouldn’t make very much money off of you. Right? But if somebody invents a pill or a shot that helps you live with diabetes… they’ll get your money week-after-week, month-after-month, year-after-year until the day you die. Make sense?

In fact, there’s a saying in the drug industry:

Cures Kill Profits!

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to have to depend on some big drug company to keep me alive and comfortable just so I can give them more of my hard-earned money every month.

I’d much rather take control of my own health and find a way to banish diabetes.

Now a number of doctors, medical scientists and researchers armed with “real answers” and “real solutions” are stepping up and are NOT afraid of “Uncle Big-Bully Brother!”

One courageous fellow by the name of Matt Traverso is doing exactly this!

Not only that, but Matt Traverso has lectured and personally helped individuals beat the disease to the point that proven sufferers have actually gotten re-diagnoses as “no longer having the disease at all!” (Something that’s pretty much always been ruled out as a possibility altogether! – and now which may even be against the law!)

But why don’t we hear about this information from the American Diabetes Association? The truth is, the American Diabetes Association are benefiting hugely from the current trend in diabetes. They are funded by pharmaceutical companies who would lose out if people reversed there diabetic conditions.

The treatment of Diabetes brings in over $10 Million Dollars EVERY SINGLE HOUR of the day to Doctors, Pharmaceutical companies, and testing supply businesses. With that kind of money at stake Big Pharma is going to extreme lengths to silence information about natural cures and alternatives for treating diabetes.

Therefore it’s not certain how long Matt will be allowed to do this because “Uncle Sambo” has actually started using “Gestapo” tactics whereby people and businesses truly offering “cures” have been raided with masked armed police who even go to the point of forcing customers in the stores to get down on the floor at gunpoint!

So, if you’re wise and want to find out about this while it’s still possible for you to do so, then just visit this link now:

But don’t be surprised if one day soon you return to find this site completely removed with a US Flag waving in its place (in the name of “freedom” no less!)
