Law of Attraction For Kids

Playing with Your Child – How to Start It, Why It’s So Important

In these busy times, when parents and children have schedules packed to the max, family closeness can fall by the wayside. Most of us have to make an effort to guarantee that work, school, sports, and chores don’t swallow up the very relationships that make those things important.

When is the last time you played or goofed around with your child? Can you remember back that far? Many parents can’t. Life has made us so serious, so focused, that we’ve lost the joy of the simple things, and play was one of the first to go.

But as any child instinctively knows, play is essential to life. It brightens the heart and lightens the spirit. For kids, who live closer than we do to nature, play is as spontaneous as breathing. Sadly, most grown-ups have lost that skill. Our children can be our refresher course.

Playing with your child brings you back to the present, reminds you of what matters, and slows you down long enough to smell the roses. It also connects you emotionally with your child, rebuilding the closeness that the fast-paced, boring routines of life are all too quick to strip away.

Playing together is even more important for your child than it is for you, because she needs to feel close to you to feel loved and happy. If you’ve neglected time together for long enough, it may appear that your child isn’t interested in your attentions. She may even tell you as much. But that’s just bluster, hiding the fear that you will disappoint her again if she lets herself wish for time alone with you. If you initiate playing together, and do it at frequent intervals, even the most aloof pre-teen will start to look forward to it and, in time, throw herself into the fun.

What kind of playing should you do? Pay attention to the activities your child engages in: his idea of enjoyment. If these things seem boring to you, try hanging out nearby, observing as he does them, with words that express your curiosity. You just may find you actually develop a genuine interest. If your child is a couch potato, take up your perch on the couch beside him, but after you’re allowed “in,” initiate some play that might be more pleasant than TV.

Think back to what you did as a child that was memorable, especially activities you did with your parents that stay with you still. Think about things that are free or cost little, that involve experiencing life together. Start a list of ideas as they come, and add any of the following that you resonate with:

Raking stacks of autumn leaves, then jumping or rolling in them
Taking a hike through the forest preserve
Skating at the roller rink together
Walking the dog, taking turns with the rope
Reading comics or joke books together (or books of poetry or stories)
Making cookies, pizza or a cake
Building a fort out of snow or chairs and blankets
Playing hide and seek, hide the thimble, cards or board games
Lying on a blanket looking up at the stars
Sitting in front of the wood stove in a dark room, telling stories
Making shadow figures on the wall with your hands and a flashlight
Having a treasure hunt
Roasting marshmallows over a fire
Watching a parade
Going to the aquarium, zoo or museum
Flying kites together
Building something
Making a scrapbook
Making up a silly poem or song
Watching a movie, with popcorn and no interruptions
Playing a memory game, like “I’m going to Grandma’s house, and in my suitcase I’m going to pack …”
Getting up early to watch the sunrise from a hill
Playing games of pretend
Going somewhere special, like the beach
Having a pancake picnic in the snow
Playing together is different than finding entertaining activities for your child. Play involves you, while entertainment excuses you from the picture. If you find yourself saying, “But my schedule is too busy for any of the things on that list,” consider whether your schedule needs some pruning. After all, who’s going to remember in 20 years if you stay late at work or not next Tuesday? But will your child ever forget the Tuesday you ride the rollercoaster together?

Closeness with a child cannot be taken for granted. Like any other relationship, it will slip away unless it’s made a priority. Nothing builds trust and bonding with a child like sharing a moment of silliness and laughter. Come together for light-hearted play, and you just may find your child opens up about serious subjects. The relaxed atmosphere of play helps us let our guard down and reveal more of ourselves.

When you play together, let your child feel like the most important person in your world. Give him your undivided attention: no cell phones, no interruptions, no slipping into your own private thoughts. Be present – body, mind and spirit. Then let yourself do whatever comes naturally, with the abandon you felt when you yourself were a child. Your instincts will be your guide.

Growing closer through play is easy. It just takes dedicated moments, given on a fairly regular basis, so your child begins to count on having time with you.

Let your child re-teach you the wonderful secrets of play. You both will feel more secure and peaceful – and a whole lot happier, as the reason you do it all for, starts to come back to you.

Hamstring Injuries and Treatment

What is a Hamstring?

The large muscle group on the back of our legs is collectively called the hamstring. It is made up of three muscles; semitendinosus, semimembranosus and biceps femoris. The biceps femoris is the most common muscle to be injured in a hamstring injury.

Hamstring Strains

The most common type of injury of the hamstring is strain or "pull". This usually happens in sports that require quick starting and stopping (soccer, football or baseball). There are different grades of strains depending on the severity.

Grade 1 - minor tear of the muscle fibres. Pull or over stretched.

Grade 2 - moderate/significant tearing of the muscles fibres. Partial tear.

Grade 3 - complete tear of the muscle. Into two separate pieces.

Signs and Symptoms

• Sensation of tightness or cramp after activity (over stretch or "pull")

• Immediate pain in back of thigh as well as pain with stretching or with running (partial tear)

• Bruising below the area of pain the next day (partial or complete tear)

• Severe stabbing pain and burning. Unable to walk without pain (complete tear)

Treatment of Hamstring Injuries

The first step in properly treating a hamstring stretch is to reduce the amount of swelling or bleeding (bruising). This is done with the R.I.C.E. principle:

R - Rest your leg

I - Ice the area immediately (not directly on skin) 15 minute intervals

C- Compression (wrap with tensor)

E - Elevate your leg above your heart while lying down

Depending on the severity of the injury therapy may be needed to help with recovery. Interventions like ultrasound, electrotherapy or acupuncture can help reduce swelling and speed healing. Muscle therapy (massage or myofascial release) can help to reduce scar tissue build up and help with new muscle fibre alignment.

Once pain allows it, gentle stretching can begin. This should be done with care and stopped at any sign of pain. Simple resistance exercises can also be started once there is no pain in performing them.

Preventing Hamstring Injuries

As we keep talking about in these monthly newsletters, it's better to prevent an injury from happening than to fix it once it happens. Most hamstring injuries are a result of the muscles either being too weak, stiff or having improper balance.

A proper warm up period before activities is important to get the blood flowing and to increase the temperature of the muscles themselves. Stretching should be saved for after your activity when the muscles are already warm.

Preventive stretching and strengthening of the hamstrings is useful if you are prone to these injuries or have imbalances. These should be done eccentrically (while lengthening the muscle) as this is a common mechanism during injury. As our lower leg is extended/straightening quickly, our hamstrings have to work to slow the leg down. This quick lengthening under load causes the strain or tear.

Importance of Hamstring Strength

While preventing injuries to your hamstrings is an important reason to have good strength, there are other reasons as well. A lack of strength can increase your risk of an ACL injury (knee injury). That is why it is important to have a good combination or ratio of hamstring and quadriceps strength. An ideal ratio is 75 percent.

You can calculate this by performing both a leg extension and leg curl at your one repetition maximum. That means, how much you can lift one time. You then divide your leg curl total by your leg extension total to get your ratio.

For example if you can curl 50 lbs and you leg extension maximum is 100 lbs, you would divide 50 by 100 to get.50 or 50%. Again you want to be closer to 75% and most people are stronger in their quadriceps than hamstrings which can lead to an increase in leg and knee injuries.

Health With Quantum Mind

To consciously use your quantum mind for success in life and beyond you must realize that you have two focuses to your consciousness. One is your earth focus, which has little power. The other is your quantum or 'soul' wide focus with which you can scan for a great deal of information in practically no 'time' at all. It's fast because, unlike your earth mind's focus, it doesn't think in a 'blinkered' linear way but in dimensional concepts. It reads information like a super search engine and at the quantum level of existence where all knowledge is stored

Your earth mind forgets things by design while your quantum mind never forgets anything. Because your earth mind forget things you don't remember what you were before your consciousness was focused into it at birth. Many successful people, from Galileo to Einstein, may not have known the quantum mechanics of how they got their inspiration. But most of them, it is reported, had quiet contemplative moments in which they sought information in their minds. They would even have 'walking around fast' thought periods, in which information flowed rapidly into their minds as they walked.

There are literally trillions of trillions of quantum minds making up the universe with each streaming information that is local to them. Each atom, molecule, cell - to a community of them - like living Lego blocks - can make any life form and do so by using ready-encoded information: all of those forms existing both on a physical level and a quantum or 'soul' level and seeking out, creating and using information and storing it quantum mind. It is the sum of that information that gives the physical universe the many quantum possibilities from which to choose. You have to realize that, as Einstein said, time is relative to density.

Here on the surface of the earth and in an earth body the density slows down the speed at which consciousness can process information. Out in space the speed at which your consciousness can process information is faster. Now imagine that the speed of light is the key note of the universe, like a musical scale with a low note in the black hole and the high note in the speed of light. Infinity is beyond all keynote light speeds. The speed of universal thought can therefore be infinite. Your quantum mind stores all the knowledge of what you are. It doesn't store all the knowledge of the universe, it is the universal mind, the sum of all minds, that does that as a quantum matrix, a universal brain - but your mind can access information from it.

You 'reach' for it in your mind by asking questions of it. Science tell us that the universe 'splits' off at each decision into many quantum possibilities from which any of us can chose. Allow yourself the possibility that organisational abilities can and probably must exist everywhere in the universe. You see and comprehend your own locality and encode what you see on the quantum level of yourself and this is immediately available to the 'search engine' abilities of other minds, just as theirs is available to you: giving all who search many quantum possibilities of answers to all problems.

If we open our minds as individuals to all possibilities we will find them and in finding them we have the tools for any success.

The Real Cause of TMJ Disorders

The temporomandibular joint disorder, called the TMJ in short, is a fairly common disorder of the jaw which affects nearly sixty million people in the American population. People who suffer from this condition are likely to experience pain that may be temporary, but may also last for at least a few years. For those who are affected with this problem, it is important to understand what causes TMJ disorder in order to treat it. It can't be stated for certain exactly what causes TMJ disorder, although there are some standard contributing factors. These factors can be categorized into the following groups:

1. Dental issues: TMJ disorder is most commonly caused as a result of derangement of the jaws. This is a condition known as "malocclusion" wherein your teeth are no longer able to fit together the way they are supposed to. This condition can be a result of situations such as ill fitting dentures, tooth removal or any minor or major dental surgery, missing teeth, advent of pre molars and growth of wisdom teeth.

2. Trauma: About 99% of TMJ sufferers claim that their condition was a result of some sort of trauma or injury. Even minor blows on the head, face or jaw can result in trauma. Whiplash and traction appliances used in whiplash injuries or problems like ill fitting braces can also prove to be contributing factors.

3. Habits: Some of the things we unwittingly do in our daily lives result in TMJ disorder. A common cause is bruxism, or the habit of continually clenching one's teeth. Bruxism puts undue pressure on the teeth and jaw resulting in the damage of cartilage and ligaments in the TMJ area. Other bad habits include chewing on pens/pencils, biting finger nails, chronic gum chewing and bad postures that put pressure on your face and jaw, such as, sleeping on your stomach and holding the phone on your shoulder.

4. Social situations: Stress has been known to cause tension in the muscles. Prolonged tightening of the muscles affects the TM Joint by putting enormous pressure on it. Eventually the tense muscles tend to shorten and result in misalignment. Social situations like family problems, financial issues, legal hassles and health concerns are stress inducers and must be dealt with.

5. Emotions: Emotional upheavals resulting from depression, anxiety, fear or anger have adverse affects that can negatively affect your whole body including the TM Joint.

Certain simple precautions should be kept in mind in order to prevent a TMJ disorder. For instance, although yawning is a reflex action, one must take care to not open one's mouth fully but partially while yawning. Similarly, excessive chewing of bubble gum, habits like biting nails or chewing on pencils must be avoided at all costs. As the TM joint facilitates essential activities like talking, chewing and swallowing, it is important to take care of it.

Since the causes of TMJ disorder are so varied, the approach to treating it should also be multi dimensional. There is a wide variety of treatment available for the condition, ranging from simple exercises to complicated corrective surgeries. However, if you are looking for a permanent solution to your problem, it is best to adopt a holistic approach. In treating the condition holistically, you strengthen your body and equip it to heal all by itself. Not only can your body recover from the ailment; it can also prevent future occurrences of it. In the case of TMJ disorder therefore, combining relaxation therapies, which would help reduce stress, with jaw exercises, such as controlled TMJ rotation, and working on body postures that affect the head and neck, would provide a wholesome remedy for TMJ disorder. Only through holistic treatment can your body be restored to a state of well being.

This article is based on the book, "TMJ No More" by Sandra Carter. Sandra is an author, researcher, nutritionist and health consultant who dedicated her life to creating the ultimate TMJ disorders solution guaranteed to permanently reverse the root cause of TMJ and dramatically improve the overall quality of your life,  without the use prescription medication and without any surgical procedures. The Amazing Power of the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

The Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT for short, has gained massive popularity over the past few years. The technique was developed by Gary Craig, and was build upon the work of Dr Roger Callahan called Thought Field Therapy (TFT). TFT was formed by combining ideas of quantum theory, kinesiology and acupuncture to create a modern healing technology.

Proof That the Emotional Freedom Technique Works

For all the logical brains out there I've compiled a short list of peer reviewed studies which prove the effects of EFT:

Elder, at al., 2007 proved the effects of EFT on maintaining weight loss;
Korber, at al., 202 proved the effects of EFT on anxiety, pain and elevated heart rate following injury;
Wells, et al., 2003 proved the effects of EFT on phobias.
A simple search on Google will also reveal a bunch of studies I missed out.

The point is this: EFT works! And, it's scientifically proven.

In my personal experience it's helped me tremendously with everything from a fear of heights to removing the thoughts and beliefs that block abundance.

How EFT works

The verdict on exactly how EFT works is still out. The current theory is that perturbations in the energy field cause negative emotions which can lead to negative physical side effects. By tapping on various points throughout the body, you can reset these fields, fix the energy disturbance and remove the negative emotions. The points used are typically the end points of various meridians as taught in Chinese medicine.

Uses for EFT

EFT has been proven to be successful at treating a wide range of problems, from physical to mental issues as well as more intangible issues such as harmful beliefs and thoughts.

My personal favorite use for EFT is to remove blocks to achieving goals and attracting abundance. It works like magic in that respect!

In order to work on physical issues, one would need to elicit the underlying psychological issues behind the physical symptom. This often involves asking questions such as: "If I knew what this back pain was related to, what would it be?"

You're looking for an emotional reason behind the physical symptom. That's where you can put EFT to work and create impressive improvements.

In terms of using the Emotional Freedom Technique to create abundance, one would pick a goal and use EFT to remove the charge behind the negative thoughts and beliefs that come up. Removing the emotional charge from this thoughts renders them powerless.

To go even deeper, one could investigate their deservingness and capability beliefs behind the goal. For example: "Why don't I deserve to have x?" could be used to elicit deservingness issues that could block abundance. The same could be said for beliefs around capability.

How To Do EFT

Unfortunately, EFT is much more effectively taught by demonstration, rather than explanation. In order to learn it as easily as possible, do a search on http://youtube.com.

EFT is an amazing tool for dealing with all kinds of problems from the physical to the psychological to the mental. It is my hope that this article has empowered you to use the Emotional Freedom Technique to improve your life.
